There’s nothing more relaxing than being on the water on a beautiful summer day. The sunshine, blue skies, warm temperatures, and calm water call to our inner self to pack up the cooler, load the boat and cast off for a favorite spot. Every boater has a special place to moor out and hang a hook or raft off with boating friends. Maybe it’s a cove around the bend, an inlet across the lake or a secluded natural harbor. Wherever it is, get out and enjoy the water today.
Whoa! Wait just a minute! We’re still in the throes of a frigid, icy winter here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and boating season is still a couple of months away. Ahhhh…Anticipation…can’t wait!
January is leaving us just as it began; cold, cold, cold. The lakes are frozen and dotted with fish shacks. The snow is falling (AGAIN); the temperatures have dipped well below zero (AGAIN); the wind is howling and snowdrifts are building (AGAIN). It seems like such a LONGGGGGG way to boating season and the dreaded cabin fever or “can’t wait for boating season blues” has set in. Nothing you do seems to help diminish this awful “disease”.
If cabin fever or the “can’t wait for boating season blues” has taken hold of you, try a few of these tips:
- Check out a boat show. They are in full swing this time of year.
- Thumb through your boating magazines or pick up a couple of new ones.
- Dig out the photos you took last summer on the dinghy or boat and enjoy the memories.
- Make a list of gear and equipment your vessel needs AND don’t forget a ProDav Swivel Davit System.
- Jot down harbors you’d like to visit this summer.
- Plan a boating excursion with fellow boaters and get it on the calendar now.
These are certainly not a cure all for the “can’t wait for boating season blues” but they just might help ease the symptoms a bit.
Boating season is over for another year. As you look back over the summer, what had you hoped to change or update on your boat but never got “A Round To It”? Was it your dinghy davit system? As you watched other boaters effortlessly load and launch their dinghies with the ProDav Swivel Davit System, you thought you’d check it out because your davit system just wasn’t cutting it anymore. But…. never got “A Round To It”. Now you’re thinking of putting it off until spring and then you’ll get “A Round To It”. Why wait? It’s the perfect time to order the ProDav Swivel Davit System and you’ll be set for next year.
Many boaters think that Labor Day signals the last days of summer and the end of the boating season. They get their boats ready for winter, load their gear and store their dinghies until spring. These boaters are missing out on some of the best boating days of the year; Fall Boating! So what’s so great about boating in the fall? Sure, there’s a definite crispness to the air as the sun rises later and sets earlier but the beauty of autumn is phenomenal. The leaves are changing color, geese are flying south, and the night sky is exceptionally bright with stars you can almost touch. Fall festivals are in full swing and it’s usually easier and less expensive to get a dock at the marinas that were too full over the summer. Don’t wait; get out there and enjoy these final days of boating even if you just launch your dinghy and take a leisurely ride around your own harbor.
We are very excited here at ProDav headquarters! Our small harbor in Gladstone, Michigan on beautiful Little Bay de Noc has brand new floating docks! The old ones had been around for 30 years and seen better days. They were unsightly and had become a safety issue. The new docking system makes for easier on and off access to the vessels and provides additional transient slips. The replacement docks are much more functional, user friendly and look nice too. Out with the old and in with the new is good advice to follow when the old just isn’t cutting it anymore. This goes not only for docks but davit systems, too! Is your “old” davit system not working so well anymore? Has it become more of a chore to use your dinghy? Then out with your old system and in with a new ProDav Swivel Davit System, the easy and effortless way to load and launch your dinghy.
We could not help but share this testimonial we received from a customer. If you are a skeptic, or just unsure of the ProDav Swivel Davit System, please read!
“I was about the biggest skeptic when I first purchased the unit, thinking, this is too easy and too good to be true. We have a fiberglass bottom inflatable with a 15HP four stroke motor (about 350 pounds total). We installed the ProDav System on our swim platform, tried to get the dinghy on it about 7 times. We fought the dinghy all the way up and even lost the dinghy off the system 3 times. We struggled to get the system working (like in the video and pictures) and only one time were we successful with two people pulling the dinghy up and around. At that stage I knew it was not going to be a “one person task” and I was convinced it was difficult even as a ”two person task.” I committed to uninstalling the ProDav system from the swim platform, sending it back and going back to our old system. After re-reading the directions for the 5th time and then talking with Joel he convinced me to try it again, this time knowing it will be/feel like a “really weird movement” trying to push the bow down and twist the dinghy at the same time, also make sure we have enough length extended on the crank, and also reminded me to put much weight forward as possible. What I found is that the first 7 times our gas tank was sliding back to the engine and was causing weight equilibrium issues, so I temporarily fixtured the tank at the bow and WOW, it worked, and so much better/smoother. We tried it a few more times with two people and it seemed to do OK. Still a weird and awkward motion, but at least we were able to get it up on the platform with two people. I talked to Joel and he offered to make things right and travel over to Wabasha, MN (our home port) to make sure we are comfortable with the system. Joel showed up, confirmed we had the system set up correctly, the correct length on the crank and walked me through the “weird motion.” Now almost a year later, I can tell you that THIS SYSTEM IS AWESOME and I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO MY OLD SYSTEM!!! I am able to launch and retrieve the dinghy by myself, and the two pins pull out and there is very little hardware left on the swim platform. Easy to put on and take both the dinghy and the hardware. I am very happy I purchased this system and the customer service that came along with the system is top of the line! I don’t know too many businesses, let alone the business owners that would take the time to drive 12 hours round trip to make 100% sure a customer was happy with their product and knew how to use it... Oh yeah and did I mention it was on the 4th of July weekend that Joel drove over. I have talked to several people and I have exhibited the ease of your system to at least 20 people in the last year. Every time I launch or retrieve my dinghy people stop to look/watch, I‘m not sure if it is because they think it is going to be an accident waiting to happen, or if they know how they struggle with their dinghy and want to see how others struggle, then they see how easy it is and they are blown away. I love to help out a company like yours, the products speaks for itself and the customer service says a lot about the company.” ~Steve from Wabasha, MN
A dinghy is a type of small boat, often carried or towed for use as a ship’s boat by a larger vessel. It might also be called a dory, tender, life boat, inflatable, pinnace or rib. As most seasoned boaters will tell you, a dinghy is a necessity. A dinghy is not only a safety feature in case of an emergency but it expands and increases your boating fun. Whether you’re exploring the nooks and crannies of the North Channel or zipping across the harbor to see friends, a dinghy is a must have. Loading, launching and transporting your dinghy on your boat should be easy and effortless. This way a boater is more likely to use their dinghy and add to their boating pleasure. The ProDav Swivel Davit System is all of that; easy and effortless to load, launch and transport your dinghy. HAPPY DINGHYING!
“I had spent hours looking for davit solutions for my 10’ RIB for my 35’ Express Cruiser after having bought another davit system a few years earlier that I was very unhappy with due to difficulty retrieving my tender and the sturdiness of the system. In my search, I was referred to ProDav Swivel Davit System and was extremely impressed with how sturdy their system was as well as how user-friendly the tender retrieval system is. I was equally impressed with how friendly and available Joel (founder) and Stacie have been with questions during the purchasing, installation, and post-installation stages. The ProDav system was easy to install and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a system that is sturdy, dependable and at a nice price point” – Tim Thompson, Apple Valley, Minnesota
Sturdy and user-friendly!
“Our last davit system wasn’t working for us, so after much research we chose ProDav. We were glad we did, it was easy to use and after being in rough seas we were impressed with the durability and workmanship. We have a Formula 41PC which has an integrated swim platform, so the ProDav worked perfect. With the ease of loading and unloading, we found we put it back on the boat after use instead of leaving in water.” Jim and Sandi (Tide the Knot), Cedar River, Michigan
